Lets take some time to talk about something that everyone has probably heard by now. To be even reasonably fit, you have to eat REAL FOOD. At this point I’m sure you’re thinking “yeah, yeah, fruits…veggies…we know…” Well apparently its not sinking in because everyone is still filling their bodies with a whole lot of pre-packaged and heavily processed s***. Even worse, much of it is masquerading as being “healthy”. Just because something is low fat or low calorie doesn’t mean its good for you. Anything processed and containing too many artificial ingredients, is going to make being healthy harder.
Without making it complicated and starting a very long rant/science lesson, let’s just say that processed food has less nutrition, is less filling, and has too many chemicals that can damage your body. Your liver is amazing but it can only handle so much. Your body stores any chemicals it can’t process quick enough in the safest place possible: fat cells. In many cases the vitamins added to “fortify” process foods aren’t able to be absorbed by your body. As such most people walk around with some vitamin or mineral deficiency causing some chronic illness or another. Not only that, the fiber is usually stripped away making the food less filling.
Heavily processed foods simply aren’t worth it. In fact, even on cheat day it is best to limit them. If you couldn’t possibly live in a world without Oreos, then save them for cheat day (Really though, if you’d rather have Oreos instead of home made brownies then there are other problems). Even when consuming “junk” at least try to make it from real food! We can make macaroni and cheese with real organic cream and 4 kinds of cheese or we can eat it from a box (what the hell is sodium tripolyphosphate?). The choice is up to you but when diet shake after snack bar leave you still struggling with your weight perhaps it might finally sink in. Nothing beats REAL FOOD.
