Is Being Fit-ish Right For Me?

What exactly is “fit-ish”?  We’ve all seen the t-shirts and social media posts about working out and eating tacos (I’m not entirely sure where I saw it first but would love to know who started it!).  We all laughed and went about our day.  Except for me.  I liked the idea and realized that it really makes a lot of sense for 99% of the population.  Would we all like to have a 6 pack and be able to run a marathon? Sure! Are we all willing to put in the work that it requires? (Most of us) Nope!  Most of us would be satisfied to be able to touch our toes, chase after our kids without needing an oxygen mask, and maybe take our shirts off at the beach.  In fact, in the 15 years I’ve been a personal trainer, only about 5% of my clients ever wanted “to be ripped”.  Most of my requests were…

-swing a golf club without my back hurting

-get off some of my medications

-lose my gut for my (event of some kind)

-finally run a 5k

-stop being so damned tired all the time!

Not one of these people were willing to give up all their favorite foods or spend 2 hours a day in the gym.  And they didn’t have to.  Every single person reached their goals.  How? Because their goals were realistic.  They wanted to be “fit-ish”

For most of us, all that sounds pretty good.  Hell, I’m a personal trainer and clinical nutritionist but I have no desire to put in the kind of work it takes to be Dwayne The Rock Johnson (much love and respect brother!) and I’d be willing to bet most you don’t either.  I much prefer to be able to touch my toes, pick up a couple cases of water off the floor, and take the stairs without dying…all while enjoying the occasional pizza and beer.  So, if this sounds good to you, then congratulations! You too can be one of the Fit-ish.
